Dominic Maffia is a recent Fine Art graduate of The University for the Creative Arts (UCA). His work has been exhibited in the Turner Contemporary, Margate as part of the Platform Graduate Showcase exhibition 2012 and went on to be shortlisted for the Platform Graduate Award.
He was born in the city of London and grew up on the coast line of Dungeness. Dominic is currently embarking on a world adventure to explore and develop his gift of painting but is contactable by email.
Harnessing a sense of nostalgia, Dominic Maffia is interested in the relationship between the photograph and the recollection of the ‘moment’. His work evokes the nature of a photograph to provoke memories. He attempts to use the negative space in his paintings as a way of exploring memory. The Sisters series consists of several paintings based on a selection of photographs taken from Maffia’s family album between the late 1980s and early 1990s.
